Fratelli

Fratelli

If there was ever a vineyard founded with brotherly love, this is it. Fratelli (‘brothers’ in Italian) unites three families: the Secci brothers from Italy, with the Sekhri and Mohite-Patil brothers from India.

Situated in the Solapur region in Maharashtra, their wines were initially crafted under the guiding hand of the late Piero Masi, a master winemaker from Tuscany. Now his son Giovanni has stepped into his shoes, working alongside sommelier Rakesh Awaghade and the rest of the talented team. With a cutting-edge laboratory and the highest quality French Oak barrels, Fratelli are pulling out all the stops to produce top quality Indian wines.

Before the pour

“Despite us visiting in the off-season, the Fratelli vineyards in Akluj, Maharashtra were glorious nonetheless. And our experience was made even more glorious by the glass(es) of wine we sampled while on their ‘sundowning’ terrace in Garwad, in the middle of their estate. The masterfully designed winery, introduced to us by the hospitality manager Shusant Soni, uses some of the most advanced processes we have seen so far. Dinner with Giovanni and Rakesh, which tabled spaghetti with a homemade  pesto and dal to accompany some very fine wine, was a highlight.”
