Halli Berri Coffee
Nestled in the foothills of Mullayyangari, Karnataka’s highest peak, is Halli Berri Coffee (not to be confused with a certain award-winning Hollywood actress). Owned by the Kariappa family since 1948, the operation is helmed by four extraordinary women: mother Nalima and her three daughters Maanavi, Anusha and Tejini.
Their coffee beans are grown in Karnataka across two plantations: the Kambihalli Estate in the Baba Budangiri range and the Thekamakki Estate in Chembebellur. With beans roasted using small-batch techniques, Halli Berri Coffee truly delivers on flavour.
Before the pour
“After a snack at their cafe in the hills, we jumped into Ponana’s jeep to see Halli Berri’s numerous coffee plantations, punctuated by fields of indigenous spices like pepper and clove. The word ‘idyllic’ isn’t sufficient to describe this 250 acre plantation, and the coffee speaks for itself.”
